The migratory birds in Qilihai Wetland

In the early winter season, Tianjin's Ninghe district welcomes the arrival of the bird migration season.

Qilihai Wetland, an important stopover in East Asia on the Australasia bird migration route, is experiencing a peak in the migratory bird transit period.

Over 130,000 migratory birds have been observed passing through the wetland, and nearly 20,000 birds stopover there each day. More than 1,000 Oriental White Storks have been observed, and the populations of key protected species such as the White-naped Crane and the Great Egret have increased compared with previous years.

In order to conduct comprehensive daily inspections of wetlands and efficiently and accurately monitor and protect migratory birds in the ecosystem, the Qilihai Management Committee implemented in September a wetland intelligent inspection drone system.

"It is now the bird migration season. We conduct routine monitoring of migratory birds every day and record real-time basic information about the birds in the reserve, including their species, numbers, distribution characteristics and habitat status. In addition, we capture on-site images for analysis in order to understand the dynamic changes in the migratory behavior of wetland birds during the migration period. Through scientific assessment of the current status of wetland bird protection, we are fully committed to ensuring the smooth migration of migratory birds," said Han Baoliang, deputy director of the Qilihai Wetland Conservation Center.
