May 13th marked the first World Migratory Bird Day this year. In order to create a better habitat for birds, the Qilihai Wetland Conservation Center upgraded its bird islands.

"This year, we have upgraded and transformed our existing bird islands, mainly by clearing some of the weeds on top of the reeds and exposing the bare ground, which is preferred by certain species for egg laying. During the upgrading process of the bird islands, we also spread some shells with the purpose of facilitating the breeding of birds that stay here in summer." said Han Baoliang, deputy director of the Qilihai Wetland Conservation Center.

According to the staff of the Qilihai Wetland Conservation Center, in order to create a suitable habitat for birds, they have built more than 50 artificial bird nests in the trees near the dam of the East Sea Reservoir in Qilihai. Currently, birds have been nesting in them one after another. In addition, by regulating the water level, they have also created a large number of wavy and shallow shoals to provide a place for birds to move and search for food.
