Forests are known as the "lungs of the earth", and can conserve water sources and prevent soil erosion. To further construct and protect Ninghe’s green ecological barrier, a green area of approximately 4,000 acres has been established, with 170,000 trees and shrubs and 1.03 million square meters of vegetation and reeds having been planted. The overall blue-green space ratio has reached 85.6% and the forest greening coverage rate has reached 26.4%.

In addition, Qilihai Wetland, located in Ninghe district, is one of the only three remaining wetlands with ancient coastal characteristics in the world. With its vast water area and fresh air, it is known as the "green lung of Beijing and Tianjin" and "a natural oxygen bar". In recent years, by vigorously implementing various protection and restoration projects, the area of reed land in Qilihai Wetland has reached 60,000 acres, and the water area has increased to 35,000 acres, with 153 species of plants and 258 species of birds inhabiting the area.
Focusing on the green and low-carbon development principal, Ninghe will strive for the protection of the ecological barrier and contribute to the consensus of "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”.
